Call the Corona Virus by what it is. Not by what others call it.

Don’t let those in power get away with dismissing or gaslighting you

The virus is real and it was never a hoax.

There weren’t enough tests.

We need a leader in these trying times

You can lead

You don’t have to wait

Stay inside – stop the spread,

Flatten the curve,

Save lives instead

PERSONAL THOUGHTS: I was adopted from China when I was 4 months old by my mother who is white. I have always been proud to be an American citizen. For those who know me personally I am culturally American and do not even speak Chinese. I have tried, but languages are hard for me to learn. I know I am not connected to my Chinese heritage, but I am outraged about some of the things that are being said. Namely how Trump called it the “Chinese Virus.”

If you have been following the news than you know that finally Trump is taking the virus seriously. However, he started calling it the Chinese virus. I think that is rude and unacceptable that OUR PRESIDENT is stigmatizing this virus. Yes, it did start in Wuhan China, but it was going to get to US eventually. We travel to other countries all the time, including to China. Italy is a popular destination as are other areas affected by the virus. We would have gotten the virus no matter what.

Trump is politicizing this virus. He started calling it the Chinese virus because he is trying to shift anger to the Chinese because a lot of the heat is on him. He only recently started taking #CoronavirusPandemic seriously. He was calling it the CORONA FLU for MONTHS!!! He was downplaying the severity and his inaction has caused us all so much pain and suffering.

I am tired of having a leader that I am not proud of – one who is actually GASLIGHTING US. He said yesterday that he has always known “this is a pandemic” and has always “taken the virus seriously.” This is a lie! I beg all of you to VOTE and get him out of our office.

But politics aside: I ask that you not stigmatize this virus, we need to help each other not attack each other. We need to band together and be leaders ourselves.

Below is a timeline of Trump’s statements and beliefs about the Corona Virus:

Great post Anna! And really interesting to know some of your background. You really spoke from your heart in this.

That graph…is almost comedic in the stark ridiculousness of his comments overlaid on the graph! I was following the US situation with a lot of concern from a few weeks ago, learning about the lack of tests and how the true numbers of infections would be unknown there for a long time. And the absurdity of the world’s biggest economy lining up to be one of the worst affected by this. A perfect storm of large influx of people with lack of action.

The testing numbers for the USA are criminal:

Holy shit, the number of tests is only 500 more than the confirmed cases! That is really messed up. Stay safe! Always remember, that most healthy people don’t need to worry. And isolation is really effective at reducing the spread. 💙

I shouldn’t have said the bit about healthy people not needing to worry. I just meant that most people are healthy, but it sounds insensitive to those who aren’t, especially when it’s through no fault of their own.

I totally see what you mean though. Those who are young and healthy don’t have as much to worry about. They should’t worry about themselves, they need to worry about others and that they could be carrying the virus and spreading it even if they don’t have symptoms. This is super hard to do or comprehend. So I understand (but don’t agree) with how other people are going about their lives and not doing social distancing.

i also use the term healthy people, we should probably say those without risk factors (meaning the healthy younger people who don’t have other health conditions). It’s hard though because everyone else says “healthy” people, which does have a bit of a negative connotation

Yeah, totally agree with you. Although I’m sure you could have a bad experience with coronavirus without dying, it is mostly about protecting the vulnerable people. And that is sad that people are going against advice, or not doing as much as they could.

To be fair, it’s not difficult to comprehend, but does need a certain amount of abstract thinking and thoughtfulness. Which not everybody has, but a lot of people need to just stop and properly think about it. I saw some people earlier going about things as normal, whilst we’ve all been recommended to stay home.

Hopefully those people will learn quickly from others around them! In France, they have made it official with a form!

That’s a good point, saying ‘with/without risk factors’ is a lot better :).

Thanks! I don’t usually do long posts, but I’ve been following the corona virus closely as well as the political situation. TBH before this year I was never invested. I never really watched the news/read about it.

I’m glad you liked this post. I felt like I had to say something because our current world situation is unlike anything we’ve seen before. It’s been interesting and frustrating to see how different people are handling this current crisis. I just wanted to throw my two cents in about our current leadership and that we need to make changes. We need someone we trust to lead us through the oncoming economic crisis and in my opinion that is definitely not Trump. I know there are others who disagree with me, but I believe they are wrong and if they could open their minds a bit they would see that there is so much wrong with our society right now. Trump is trying to divide us even now, but we all need to stick together.

We also need to think about others before ourselves. It’s hard to stay indoors and no do anything, but we need to protect those at risk.

💙. I know what you mean about the news. Since January 2019 I got very good at avoiding it, after I went to a meditation retreat for 1 week. I can tell you, that after not seeing the news for 1 week, it becomes very easy to keep going (usually)!

Good for you for making the post! I could tell there was a lot of frustration there, and you used it for good 🙂.

But yes, this year has been unprecedented in a few different ways already. You’re completely right about Trump, it’s extremely obvious from here! You’re trying to be diplomatic and scrupulously fair, but the fact is that any leader not following the advice from science is not fit to be leader. And yes, it is shocking how he’s still trying to divide people, but I put absolutely nothing past Trump. I will be really relieved when he’s gone, and I don’t even live there!

Yes, it’s definitely easier to endure the isolation, knowing it’s for others’ benefit (at least it is for me!).

Sometimes I think about what we will all think when we look back at this time. Will people be happy with their decisions? Will they not care? Will people be regretful?

Yeah, I usually try not to look too much into the news. However, I want to be updated now because I’m afraid of the corona virus and want to be able to protect my family and friends. Also, it’s going to be a rough rest of the year(s?). The economy isn’t looking too good 😦 Also, I fear for the future and the possibility that Trump could turn this virus into a political weapon and get elected for another 4 years. I hate the thought of it, but his followers are scary and they often ignore the facts and just dismiss it as “fake,” all the while believing everything that Trump says. I want to do anything I can to keep Trump from winning again. If I can get just a few people to realize the truth about Trump then I will be happy.
